Prt. 2 - That ComeBack
It had been three days since Apefanie and her daughter, Ne'Aija had moved into their new home. The house was large, but cozy and was perfect for the both of them. Today, Apefanie and Ne'aija had spent the entire playing and baking cookies. By the end of the day, they were both pooped.
Apefanie served dinner, gave little Ne'Aija a bubble bath and then put her to bed. Her plan was to go to bed herself, but she received a text from her baby daddy that said, "Call me." almost seconds after she tucked her daughter in for bed. His text made Apefani roll her eyes.
She stepped outside of her daughters bedroom, and called him.
"What is it, Major?" She asked, acting irritated. The truth was, she loved this man more than she loved herself. But, he had hurt her far too many times and she wasn't willing to let her guard down, again.
"Hey Ma, I wanted to see if I could come by?" He asked. His voice was so sexy and it sent chills down Apefanie's spine and she hesitated before she answered.
"Major, It's almost 10 O'Clock at night. I just laid Ne'Aija down. I'm tired... Maybe you can come by another time?" Apefanie suggested.
"Nah, come on Ma, Please?" He replied, not taking no for an answer. "I just.... I just want to talk for a second and see my little girl. Can you hear me out?" He asked.
Apefanie didn't reply, right off but then said, "Fine."
"Bet." Major replied, I'm outside." He said. His forwardness surprised Apefanie. Major was never the type of guy to anything like this. The Major she knew would tell her he was on the way for four hours, and never show up. But, tonight, Major was at her doorstep in less than five seconds and it shocked Apifanie.
"Well, can I come in?" He asked when he made it to the front door.
"Sure." Apifanie replied, guarded. She welcomed Major inside, and took him to little Ne'Aija's room so that he could see her as he requested.
"Here she is." She said as they both gazed at her as she was fast asleep.
"Wow, she's grown so much." He said. His response made Apefanie cold inside because she realized that Major hadn't seen his daughter since she was a newborn.
"...I know" She replied, trying to keep her emotions in check. She let Major look at Ne'Aija a little longer as she slept and then escorted him back to the living room.
"So, you got to see your baby." She said sitting on the couch. "Now, what do you want to talk about." She said. "It's getting late and I have some business to take care of in the morning." She implied, rushing him.
"I just wanted to apalogize for everything that I've done to you in the past. Leaving you and my little girl is the dumbest thing that I've ever done... And I miss ya'll, Apifanie." Major replied, quite honestly.
His response totally caught Apifanie off guard and she wasn't sure how to respond. She had heard all of this before, so she could only take it with a grain of salt...
Apifanie smiled awkwardly. "I accept your apology... And we miss you too.. But we are ok." She replied trying to make light of things. In actually, Apefanie was not ok. She missed her man. They had grown up as best friends, loved each other through high school and even graudated college together. But, somewhere along the lines, after the baby, things fell apart.
"I guess what I'm trying to say baby is... I want you back." He replied, very serious.
"But, Major." Apifanie replied reluctantly. "Things are different now."
"I know." Major said. "I fucked up. But I can make it up to you if you let me. I want to be a father to my little girl." He declared.
Major was saying all of the things that Apefanie wanted to hear but she just couldn't trust him.
"I don't know about that, Major." She said, getting up from the couch. "I think it's time for you to go."
Major rose from the couch and walked up from behind Apefanie, embracing her. She melted like butter in his arms, missing him. He squeezed her tight and whispered in her ear "I'm going to right all my wrongs, baby. Trust me." He said.
His words began to make Apefanie cry. She wanted so bad to believe him... But she couldn't'.
Major turned Apefanie around and wiped her tears. "You've cried enough tears over me. Don't cry anymore." His words made Apefanie cry even harder.
"I'm going to leave tonight because you asked. But mark my words, Apefanie. I'll be back. Goodnight." He said.
"Goodnight." Apefanie .uttered as he left her with her head spinning.
