Four Sim Years Later...
The last time that we checked in on the 'Is This Luck Story', Apifanie was working at the Grand Lux Hospital where she accidentally walked in during the delivery of a child that just so happened to belong to the love her life, Major. It has been some time now, and Apifanie has picked up the pieces of her crazy life. At first she was bitter, but eventually, her heart healed, As time passed, Apifanie's daughter, Ne'Aijah grew into a beautiful young girl. She was 10 years old now and smart as ever! She was the apple of Apifanie's eye, did well in school and was obedient (most of the time).
Apifnanie was pleased at the way that time had worked in her favorite. Things were bad at one point, but she worked at them and even though her life wasn't perfect, she felt that she was doing a great job at providing for her daughter and setting a good example of what a strong, indpenedent woman was capable of.
Apifanie focused on her career. Even though walking in on Major having a baby with another woman in the delivery room while at work had been been mortifying, she didn't allow it to stop her from following her dreams. Apifanie used these last four years to work her way up to Assistant nurse and was excelling quickly in her career. She couldn't wait to climb the ladder and be the great doctor that she knew she could be. When she won the lottery years ago, she never left the gas station that she worked at. Working at the hospital was a level up and she had even met some new friends. One of which was her best friend Damian Sanders.
Damian had been a part of Apifanie's life for over three years now. Everyone at work said that Apifanie and Damian should be together, but they enjoyed their pure friendship. The two of them just clicked. Not in a sexual way but in a spiritual way. Over the years, they had laughed, cried, shopped and got drunk together and it all started over the two of them fighting over a Twinkie at Grand Lux hospital almost 3 years ago. Ne'Aijah and Dame also had an instantaneous bond. She was crazy about him and enjoyed spending Saturday afternoon's shopping with her Mom and Uncle Dame!
Today was no different. Apifanie walked into work, ready to take on the day. She was assigned to the ER room today, so she was sure that her day would be unpredictable. She smiled when she walked in and saw Damian smiling at her from the front desk!
"Happy Best Friend-a-versary!!! Damien said, grinning at his best friend. Apifanie had been nothing but pure joy since the moment she had waltzed into his life. Today marked their 3 year anniversary of friendship and tonight Apifanie, Ne'Aijah and Damien had a huge dinner planned that would have all of their favorite foods to celebrate.
"Happy Friend-a-versary, bestie." Apifanie said, smiling from ear to ear!
"I'm so excited! I've got something really exciting to share with you two tonight!" Damian said!
The excitement in his voice made Apifanie giddy! "What are you up to?" She asked. He'd officially sparked her curiosity.
"Well, I guess you will just have to wait and find out tonight..." Damian teased!
Apifanie playfully poked her lip out to show his dismay.
"Now, I picked up some coffee for you this morning when I picked up mines. It's sitting on your desk in your office. But, if I were you, I'd hurry to room B5. Doctor Sullivan is expecting you to debrief the other nurses about the surgery and it is scheduled to start in 45 minutes." he said listing off her agenda for the morning as he followed her to the surgery room. This was part of the reason why Damien was her best friend. Not only was he fun, but he had a professional side that kept sharp and on her feet.
"Okay, thank you bestie." Apifanie said, kissing Damiens cheek and rushing off to assist the doctor. I'll see you later on tonight!" She said, leaving Damien standing in the hospital hallway, smiling.
Later That Night...
It wasn't unusual to find Major's car parked outside Apifanie's house when she arrived home from work, because he came to see her just about every day. When she arrived home today though, she was annoyed to see him there. They were just finishing up on homework when Damian arrived for the special dinner they had planned. Damian wasn't surprised to see Major either. They had saw each other from time to time. Major wasn't a fan of Damian and Damian wasn't a fan of Major. But, they dealt with each other and were cordial for the sake of Ne'Aijah.
Not being the least bit intimidated by Major's presence, Damian sat down at the table with Major.
"What's going on, Bro?" Major said, aggressivley. As if to somehow scare Damian, but Damion didn't stunt him one bit.
"Nothin' much. Just came over to celebrate with Apifanie & Ne'Aijah."
"Oh we celebrating! What for?" Major asked.
At no point did he use the word 'we'. Major was not included in these plans. Damian looked around at Ne'Aijah and Apifanie who seemed to feel the tension in the air.
"Well..." Damian cleared his throat. "We're celebrating our friendship for the last three years."
The look on Major's face seemed stunned "Oh." He said, jealousy laced deep in his voice.
Damian continued... "I was going to wait until you left. But, since you asked, I also was going to share some really big news..."
"Oh yeah, what's that?" Major asked through gritted teeth.
"I bought tickets for Ne'Aijah, Apifanie and I to go to Cancun this year, to celebrate!" he said, smartly. While Damian knew that he could have waited to release all fo that information, he did this all on purpose. He had saw Apifanie weep-a-many nights behind Major. Damian felt that it was his turn to feel the burn this time.
The entire room was shocked! Apifanie and Ne'Aijah cheered with excitement, but for Major, the room was spinning. All that he could think about was another man taking his baby momma and his child to an island, far far away and how there was nothing that he could do about it...
